S.P.A.R.C. Museum

Society for the Preservation of Antique Radio in Canada

Bob was instrumental in ‘re-setting’ the Carpathia Display at SPARC- previously it was a space that was a catch all for anything ‘sort of old’

When Bob started coming regularly to the Museum, his attention to detail and accuracy were invaluable. His contributions made this display one of the ‘gems’ of the Museum. He researched information about the display pieces which are typical for that used in the HMHS Titanic era. He donated a cd player that ran for years with a Spark Gap recording of the CQD message that was sent out by the Titanic.

He wrote up all the information bits that I printed on cardstock to help the public understand what they were looking at. It was so easy working with Bob, and we were happy to see the reactions of visitors to the revitalized Carpathia room.

Bob wrote/edited the book Early Radio Development in Canada 1901-1930, an illustrated history of early radio pioneers, manufacturers and their products. This book captures the excitement of a new technology bringing music, news and entertainment into the home.

A significant portion of his pristine radio collection was donated to SPARC in 2018.

He will be missed.
